You are trying to open a web page over FTP?
Why? FTP - File Transfer Protocol (emphasis on file transfer) - does what it says, it is for transferring files across networks.
HTTP - HyperText Transfer Protocol - is for transmitting web pages for a browser to present on your screen. Install a Web server. Apache is free. That Safari, Chrome and Firefox actually render the web page over FTP is a happy coincidence.
